I just celebrated my birthday two weeks ago and I feel like I an getting old. My friends keep telling me that age is all in our mind and that I still look younger than my age. I kind of believed it because I am not tall; just a typical Filipino that stands 5 feet even or a little bit taller. And most people thought we are younger than our age because of our height. But despite of those kind words, I still feel like I am aging. Yup, my skin doesn't look old or has wrinkle on it...but someday I'll have wrinkles and will be overweight if I don't take care of my over all physical health and well being. When that time comes, I want to be prepared. I will need some help. I think ghr1000 would be able to help me aside from exercise and diet. A More Enjoyable Phone Conversation

I have been thinking of what gift I would give my brother for his birthday. His birthday is already over, but I haven't not given him a present yet because I wanted to surprise him on top of he lives outside United States. I am glad he was fine to get his gift late. In two months time, we will be going to see my family and siblings; my brother will finally get his gift. Knowing he and his wife lives in an area where cellphone signal is very weak, the best gift I could give him is a home cellular booster. It would help our phone conversation clearer and longer. On Being Over Protective

Being a parent, hubby and I are very protective with our only child/son. We do all we can to keep Jacob safe in almost everything. Sometimes people say that we need to lighten up and let our son enjoy being kid and to learn the consequences of his actions. Oh well, it is easier said than done. We could never take that chances. Kids nowadays are smart. They'll do all they can to justify their actions. They know better but they still do the wrong thing because that is what their friends do. Let say, learning to ride his bike. Jacob saw some kids in our neighborhood not using helmets; he thought he need to do that too even though he knew he is supposed to use the riding helmets we bought him. He has two, but for some reason he wanted to keep both of then....but doesn't want to use any of them. Every time I ask him to give the other one away, he would say 'no' for he needs it. I don't know what to say, but keep it!

Just Like My Engagement Ring

This morning while putting on one of the jewelry I bought for myself when I was still single, I noticed that my jewelry box couldn't accommodates all my jewelry anymore. And so I told my husband that I will be needing a bigger jewelry box so I could keep them safe and dust free. He promised that he would buy me one when we go shopping this afternoon. Sure enough he did! And I am so happy for that! Anyway, I am not a fan of too much jewelry, but hubby was. He used to buy me jewelry when we were still newly wed. But when I stopped him from doing that, he did! I love the 3-stone diamond ring he bought me for it was my engagement ring. Anyway, when looking for gift to be sent to my family online, I saw a St. Thomas jewelry that looked exactly like my engagement ring, only this one is a 1 carat diamond ring...but for a cheap price. This is a good deal for St. Thomas jewelry are famous for its great craftsmanship. I'd like to have one from them someday. Maybe on our 25th wedding anniversary hubby would buy me one :-).

Understanding VA loans

Not a lot of people fully understand what VA home loans are. Sometimes, even I get confused when people start talking about VA streamline or VA refinance rates. So perhaps it is best that we go into this world and see what it is about.

According to Wikipedia, “A VA loan is a mortgage loan in the United States guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Overall, it does come out as a bit of boring because as younger people and citizens of the Philippines, it really does not apply to us, rather it does make Filipinos think of what or how the veterans of this country are taken care of. Most of these people are elderly and they need all the help they can get.

Apparently, for those who are in the U.S. and want to apply to these loans, they can get an application form, which is the standard loan application form. If the person filing the forms is making false statements or are providing incorrect information, they can be punished with a fine or imprisonment. Which will then forfeit the chances of the person owning the account his or her chances to avail of the loan.

Some Useful Brochures

Almost everyday when we go get our mails inside the mailbox, we always find at least a couple of brochures in it. We got brochures from Macy's, Avon, church distribution center, sport shops, jewelry shops and from health magazines. I feel like our mailbox is a trash can! We got junk mails in it. Some brochures are really useful, but some are not at all! However, my husband and I like the ones from church distribution center and the health stuffs....but the rest of then are just simply junks. I wished we have a recycle place here in our community where we can put all those brochures, newspapers, and magazines we don't use anymore. They said are working on it, but still we don't see any progress. Sooner or later, we would need to find a place where we can drop those stuffs up!

I Love This Plactic Step Can!

This one of the things I purchased at CSN stores using the gift certificate they gave me in exchanged on placing the links they provided me to be placed on my posts. After I have finished the posts and was given the code, I didn't waste any time. I went to their website and browsed on the items they are offering. I love this plastic step can for it is so cute, easy to clean and perfect to a small place like the guest bathroom. I love it! My son loves it, too!

Aside from this step can, I also got a dutch oven, and a laptop backpack that hubby and I both love!

Cover for Our Grill

Every other weekend I always look forward to meeting our family and close friend, the "Friers." We just love doing things together as family. Sometimes we watch movies, play ball games at the park with our kids, go to Chuck E Cheeses, shop at flea market, enjoy the stockyard road show or just hang out and have some dinner and then play board games. Last weekend, my friend and I prepared dinner while the boys and their Dads were playing baseball at a nearby park. Then after dinner, we all decided to go to an outlet mall because Marivic wanted to buy an electric grill. She loves my grill and enjoyed grilling some meat for our dinner that night. And so, she bought one!

While the at the kitchen store, I thought about asking the sales assistant whether they sell Grill covers also....but I forgot when I got busy looking for a recipe box for hubby's recipes cards. I think I better shop for Barbeque grill covers for we really need one. We really like our portable electric grill and if we want to keep it long, then it needs to be covered when not in use. I noticed that the legs of it are already faded due to sun, snow and rain exposure. Anyway, summer is soon at hand....and our grill is going to be busy once again.

Just Beautiful: White Sand National Park

A Year ago on Spring Bear, we went to New Mexico. We visited the White Sand National Park, Carlsbad Cavern and Hike on a mountain in Los Alamos, NM. We had so much fun! Our favorite of all the National Parks we visited that Spring was the Sand Dunes. As you can see...it is simply Beautiful!

My very first time to join this meme: Just Beautiful! I love gardening. I also love houseplants. One of hubby's favorite indoor/outdoor plant is Geranium for it reminds him of his grandmother. He told me, he used to smell this flower when they were visiting his grandparents every Sunday when he was little. And so, I made sure that we always have this flower plant at home.

Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you are looking for a yummy and soft chocolate chips cookies, this one is for you. I like my cookies soft and chewy and so when I bake some I make sure that they are not crunchy, but chewy instead. To make it healthy, I put some walnut as well. I got this recipe by the way from allrecipes.com. You should visit them for they have tons of recipes from all over the world!

Ingredients:
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups butter, softened
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

Procedures:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Sift together the flour and baking soda, set aside. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat in the instant pudding mix until blended. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Blend in the flour mixture. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. Drop cookies by rounded spoonfuls onto un greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Edges should be golden brown.

They Got An RV!

Last week, A friend of mine mentioned to us that her husband came home one day driving an rv. She was surprised! Her husband had traded his old truck in exchanged for his long time dream; owning a recreational vehicle! I am so happy for my friend. Now, they can travel with all their kids anywhere they want to when the school is off, like on spring break or even summer. Actually, they already planned on going to Chicago this summer. Talking about used rv, my friend's rv needs a little bit of fixing, and so they are looking for a place that do some kind of rv repair. Her husband is a handyman and can easily does the repairing himself; but he is busy with his work. So, they can use a hand to fix it. If I can remember, she mentioned about the flooring and some cosmetics which can be fixed in no time. Hopefully before the summer starts.

Scratches On Kitchen Sink

The other day while I was doing some general cleaning in the kitchen, I noticed that our kitchen sink has scratches on it. I felt bad because we have just purchased it when we bought the house. last year. I don't really remember scratching it with something sharp. I don't think my son did it because I never allow him to use the kitchen sink to wash his hands even though he wanted to use it so bad! Could it be my husband? Not really sure! Anyway, it seems to me that we would need to replace it sooner than what we thought.

You tend to gravitate toward foods that are lighter and healthier. You are an adventurous eater, and you're always interested in learning how to cook new things. Switching Career

After two job lay off in just one year, hubby and I thought of changing his career into something permanent and secure. Working in a semi conductor industry doesn't give us job security at all; and I am saying this based on experienced. Being tied up up on a manufacturing company such as this is not that good. We may be getting good health benefits and occasional increase of salary, but that's about it. We are happy with that! But we want a more permanent one where we will be our own boss. A thought of buying a franchise like fast food came to mind. A pizza parlor or an ice cream parlor maybe would be a good business. The only problem is that, some franchises only accept cash for payment. They don't like dealing with banks and small business loan. Oh well, we really need to save money or find someone who is willing lend us some money if we really want to pursue our plan.
