Tori, who is also mom to 7-month-old daughter Stella, has teamed up with Huggies to ditch the diapers. Now she’s sharing her top 5 potty training secrets with the rest of us:
1. The Potty Dance. Instead of stickers or treats, Liam celebrates potty success with a special dance. “I didn’t want to be the mom that offered a cookie to him,” says Tori, and adds that she and her husband Dean McDermott get in on the dancing fun too.
2. Books About Bodily Functions. Tori’s favorite? “Its called Everybody Poos, just to teach him that what he’s doing was normal.”
3. Pull Ups. Liam’s Pull Ups feature characters from his favorite movie: Cars! Though Tori admits there’ve been a few challenges. “His new thing is that he likes to greet people, and he loves the movie Cars,” she says.”So, he wants to show you cars on his Pull Ups, so he pulls down his pants, and he’s like, ‘Cars.’”
4. A potty. If you’ve spent any time at Babies R Us lately you’ll know that today’s potties come equipped with all sorts of bells and whistles – literally. Tori’s pick is the Safety First Jack Potty, “featuring a sensor that triggers the jackpot images to begin spinning and making noise when the potty gets wet.”
5. Friends or Family with Experience. We may not all have Huggies on speed dial, but there are often other experts closer to home. “Dean’s been through it before, so he was the great go-to guide, because I have a 10-year-old stepson,” says Tori.
