Hearty Beef Stew

I don't know about you, Guys, but I love stew so much. It is like a version of Menudo or Afritada in the Filipino cuisine. The only difference is that it has more sauce kinda like a soup; and this hearty beef stew will put some meat on your bones. The teriyaki sauce adds a nice zest to the flavor of the stew. The meat comes out moist and tender.

Ingredients:

1 pound cubed beef stew meat
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon paprika
salt and pepper to taste
2 cups beef broth
1 1/2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
1 onion, chopped
3 carrots, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
2 potatoes, cubed
1/2 pound mushrooms, quartered
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf

Directions:
Place beef stew meat into a slow cooker. In a small bowl, mix together flour, paprika, salt, and pepper; sprinkle over beef stew meat, stirring to coat. Stir in beef broth, teriyaki sauce, onion, carrots, celery, potatoes, mushrooms, garlic and bay leaf.
Cover, and cook on Low 6 hours, stirring occasionally.

Rafflesia Leonardi only in the Philippines

A five-petal flower, believed to be the only one of its kind in the world and endemic to this province's rainforest, was unveiled here earlier this week.Without roots, stems or leaves, the flower, named Rafflesia leonardi, was discovered last May by a multi-sectoral group with the aid of Agta tribesmen at the remote Sitio Kinapawan in coastal Lallo town, three hours from this bustling northernmost capital. But the flower's formal unveiling, according to Perla Visorro, president of the Cagayan Valley Partners in People Development (Cavapped), was only made Monday after almost six months of laboratory studies and research by local and international botanists to further determine and prove its rarity.The flower, which takes nine to 10 months to fully bloom but starts to wilt after around seven days, was named after Filipino botanist Leonardo Co of Conservation International, who confirmed it as a new species of Rafflesia five months after the flower's discovery.The flower, which is around 1.5 meters in diameter and only thrives in the rainforest here, was discovered some 300-700 meters above sea level within the Kinapawan forest of the Sierra Madre mountain range. Visorro said the new species, whose features are similar to R. lobata and R. manillana, was the fourth Rafflesia species found in Luzon and eighth all over the country. However, among the world's Rafflesia species, the Rafflesia leonardi is the only one with a diaphragm.

My son will be turning 5 next year and he wants to have a little birthday celebration; a party with his friends at school and neighborhood. It makes me feel nervous and worries for the outcome and most of all the costs of having it. I know some people are willing to pay extra so they don't have anything to worry about. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury! Look around and be creative. If you can't have the party at your own home, try local parks and playgrounds or your local community center. Or, instead of paying for the full party, pay for a small group of friends to go to a play place, then back to your house to finish up the party with cake and ice cream. Or consider off-peak times. Some play places offer considerable discounts for weekday parties.

Keep it simple! There is no need to spend money for the kids to be entertained. Print up some coloring pages, throw down blocks, Lego's, cars, doll's or whatever your child likes to play with. I had our box of Legos and some puzzles and the kids had a great time. Throw kids together with some toys and they will entertain themselves!

Look at your child's favorite toys, clean them up and use them on the cake -- Pokemon figures, Thomas trains, Polly Pockets, Dinosaurs... whatever you have, use it.

Finally, use your resources and use what you already have. Can't bake? Perhaps you have a friend that can. Ask her and this can be the birthday present. Our neighbor back home in Texas sent us the picture of our house and was telling us the everything is well taken care of. What Do You Think?

Last month my brother in-law and his wife invited us to spend our Thanksgiving Day in their house at Durham, NC. We agreed to go there since this will be our first and maybe our last Thanksgiving Day together and it would only take us 2 1/2 to 3 hours drive. We are all excited! Anyway, just yesterday, he called and said that we will be going to his mother in-law for Thanksgiving. I said to my husband "what?" They invited us to somebody elses dinner, instead of theirs. Yesterday, after church while driving on the way home, I saw this people carrying their picnics chairs and setting it up on the side of the road. Some people were already seating and waiting for something to happen which I didn't know what. I figured it out right away. So when hubby and son came home from church (we used both cars because hubby needs to be at church early for a monthly meeting), I told them that there is a parade in Downtown Ashland and we need to see it. So after eating lunch, we went to see the parade even though it was really cold outside.

Teary Eyes

I can be very emotional sometimes; just like today, when hubby was telling me that I needed to play with Jacob today. He told me that Jacob told him that I was mean and doesn't want to play with him. That wasn't true and he knew it. Tears started running down my face. I don't know why, but my eyes get teary today for whatever reason. Then hubby felt bad about it and thought that it was his fault. Playgroup and Mom and Dad's Night Out!

This one is taken at church where we left our kids so parents can spend time together, a dinner date...sweet! They were atching t.v. here after doing some arts and crafts, singing and eating.

This is one of those activities we do at church back in Texas that we really miss so much!

Application Errors

Lately I have been experiencing problems with our internet connections and don’t know how to fix it. The browser indicated xpnetdiag.exe missing which by the way no idea what that was. So I call the internet provider to fix it for us, but most of the times I ended up waiting for them till next technician is available to help me out. Good thing I have found XPNETDIAG.EXE, it helps me to identify and fix connection problem by monitoring the health/status of the network. This tool also scans through the common malfunctions of network and once detected the tool tries fixing the problem for me. This tool is very cool! I also found out that through XPNETDIAG.EXE, you can detect issues in the network connectivity status, and the network diagnostic for windows XP which we have, process and analyzes some network components which are common to have problems with. Basically, it performs some routine tests related to IP configuration, default gateway, Winsock, DNS, firewalls and internet connection and validation. This tool can do a lot of stuff than I can imagine possible. It also aids with computer systems using HTTP protocols and can make outbound communication with other computers like instant messenger, chat rooms and more. Try using XPNETDIAG.EXE tool in almost all your computer’s problems.

Princess Bride Game

This is great! Princess Bride Movie, my all time favorite Disney movie is on video game now. I am glad my husband bought the movie back when he was still single and kept it with his future children in mind. Now that we have our son, we still watch it and of course with our son now. Our son loves watching it, too! Anyway, back to the Princess Bride Game, which is based on the classic hit movie combines with spectacular animation and adventures. Can you believe it? After 40 years or so, there it is...The new elect President of the United States is black! I know racism is still in the blood of many Americans particularly Caucasian. If you are one of those people who loves Lean Cuisine Frozen Meals, you might consider checking the labels first before buying one. I am not a fan of froxen foods because for me, they contain ingrediets that are not very good to our body like preservatives. My husband buys some of them every once in a while especially when they are on sale. Nov. 18, 2008 -- Nestle Prepared Foods Company is recalling 879,565 pounds of frozen Lean Cuisine chicken meals that may contain small pieces of hard blue plastic.Nestle issued the recall after getting seven consumer complaints, including one report of a minor gum injury that did not require medical attention, Nestle Prepared Foods Company spokeswoman Roz O'Hearn tells WebMD.

Breakfast and Lunch with Dad

Today is a father and child Thanksgiving Lunch at my son's school; but unfortunately, hubby has to go to work. I ended up going there myself instead. I am glad that Mrs. Young (Jakes' teacher) allowed Moms to come if Dads are not available. The lunch turned out to be good. Foods were great! I forgot to take picture of it, but anyway there was slice of turkey, mashed potato, green beans, cookie, roll and tea and milk. I like it and I think kids love the foods, too for most of them ate all their foods on the tray. I have to pay for my foods ($3), well that wasn't bad.Yesterday morning was a breakfast with Dad, too! Matt was working so my son and other kids whose fathers weren't there ended up eating inside their classroom instead in cafeteria. Wonder why there is no breakfast or lunch with Moms. That's ok!

I really like this poem and I think we should always keep these things in mind as we strive to be the best that we can be. We sure are learning from other people's feeling, thoughts and actions. We are setting a good example for them if we follow these things.

Back on EC Dropping...
