Jake's Birthday at Amazing Jake in the Mall

Yesterday was my son's birthday, and the three of us went to the mall to celebrate it at Amazing Jake. This is like a Chuck E Cheeses only it is bigger and has more rides, games, and the foods are unlimited buffet. He had a blast while playing games and riding some of their rides. They even have rock climbing which I think is good muscle building for kids. After that, as we promised him before, we will buy him Buzz Lightyear at the Disney store. He got it and Woody has his partner Buzz now :-)! His celebration with two of his friends here in Texas will be on Sunday with their Pinoy Moms and Caucasian Dads, plus few of Pinay friends who have been part of Jake's bday celebration ever since he turned 1 in 2005.

Keepsakes from my Mission in Mindanao

These are few of my many pictures taken when I served for LDS church as Missionary in Mindanao. I was assigned to labor in Mati, Davao Oriental for six months, another six months in Kidapawan, South Cotabato, and six more months in General Santos City.

With me was Marylene Roman (now Vicente) from Batangas. She was the second greenie I trained after Sister Rabe, from Bicol. Isn't she pretty?

Here we were walking on a bamboo bridge on the way to visit an investigator. It was pretty scary bridge, yikes!

This one was taken after our zone conference held in General Santos City. I was the one on the right, front row. Serving a full time mission for church is one of the best decisions I have ever made! It was a 19 months service full of memorable experiences.

Last year, standing in the wings behind the curtain moments before a magnificently inspiring young artists' music festival, I witnessed a performance that touched my heart - maybe even more than the performance on the stage, but certainly as much.

A prayer had been offered in behalf of each of the young performers that their hard weeks - yes, even years - of conscientious preparation might be drawn from at this moment to ensure a masterful performance. Eyes were moist; hearts were touched as strength and unity of family members lent confidence and encouragement to each performer. At that moment a father, appearing proud and grateful, quickly leaned forward, gave his beautiful young daughter a tender kiss on the cheek, and whispered, "You're ready, my dear." And her next step was on stage, alone - a solo flight.
