Knitting Is A Way To Share Love
Guest post from: Denver Stephens
I don't think I could say enough about the wonders of knitting. I taught myself to knit many many years ago and have not forgotten the pleasure it brought. Although I have not knitted anything at all for the last few years, I know that I could pick it up again, anytime I wished. The thing about knitting is that it is kind of like riding a bike, you just don't forget how to do it.
In fact, I think I am going to go dig out my knitting needles and find some yarn that has been hiding for several years and hone my skills again while I'm watching satellite TV from www.DirectStarTV.com tonight. That's the way I learned it to knit to begin with, just sitting in front of the television. I felt like that sometimes I was wasting my time idly watching the tube, so I began to knit. This turned into a wonderful hobby and allowed me to create something beautiful at the same time.
What I found as I learned to knit was that family and friends admired what I had created so much that I was knitting things to give away as gifts at Christmas time. I still see some of those creations in the homes of the people I care about. Knitting provided me a way of sharing my love.

Christmas Shopping with My Girls
Thanks for the post, Vernon Lowe
My girls are my favorite people to go Christmas shopping with because we like to shop the same way. We don't care about fancy stores or going to the mall. Our objective when shopping for Christmas is to get the best deal. It takes a lot of time to shop the way we do because you have to look carefully if you want to find the best bargains.
We can spend three or four hours at the same store. When we are gone from home on our shopping expeditions, we always make sure to set our home security alarm from SecurityChoice.com before we leave to go Christmas shopping. This way we won't have to worry about anything and can concentrate on finding the good deals.
Last week we went shopping at Big Lots. Big Lots is one of our favorite places to find bargains because they specialize in closeout items from other stores. We love stores like Big Lots because they have so many different types of items available. You can find furniture, clothing, home decor items, toys and even video games.
We don't shop for certain items; we make a list of who needs a gift. This helps us be flexible and open to whatever good deals we might find. Try Big Lots to get bargains when you shop for Christmas.

The First Snow Of The Winter Has Arrived
December 4th, 2010 will go down in history as the first snow fall to occur in my town and area. Though it was only between a dusting to an inch in some places, it did scatter the ground, covered vehicles, and covered rooftops. The weather is still cold and it is giving us a look at what forecasters are saying could be another cold and snowy winter here in Eastern Virginia.
There is still a little snow on the ground from last night and today I will sit back and turn on my Satellite TV Sports Packages and watch football games. My anticipation for the first snow is very different than it was from my younger days. When I was younger, I could not wait for that first snow. It meant no school and being able to go outside and have fun. These days, it is cold weather and sitting back and looking at the beauty of the snow.
It seemed like it would never snow here but over the past decade or so, every winter it snows here. Last winter was especially brutal and went down as one of the snowiest on record. Though the first snow of the year has arrived, I really don't expect it to snow as much as it did last year.

Carpet Cleaning Holiday Break
Having a child in the house is making sure that you make your home clean and safe all the time. This is the reason why I got myself busy looking for organic carpet cleaner Austin. I have heard good word that the best carpet cleaning ingredient sellers and cleaners are in Austin.
After viewing several carpet cleaner prices Austin, I got myself thinking twice. Should I buy my own carpet cleaning materials and follow the furniture cleaning tips they gave or should I hire carpet cleaning specialist Austin and save a lot of time doing hard work??
Anyway, since this is the time to be jolly, I decided to give myself a break. I think I should try hiring some carpet cleaners!!! So now, I think I should try checking carpet cleaning pricing Austin to get my budget approved by my husband. LOL!!
So, how about you? Are you giving yourself a holiday break from carpet cleaning??

Battle of the Cranberry Sauces
It seems that every year after my extended family figures out who's house we're going to meet at to have our huge extended family Thanksgiving lunch together, then we have to fight and deal with second big Thanksgiving question together, what kind of cranberry sauce we're all going to have.
We corresponded through email to figure out where we were going to meet and after we figured that out, I hit reply to all and asked about the cranberry sauce. When I was doing that I was just surfing through the internet too and came across this site www.cleartvbundle.com. I think that my sister had told me about this internet company and said that she had it, so I decided to sign us up for it at home.
When it comes to cranberry sauce, I know that my kids will only eat the stuff out of the can because they won't believe me when I say that any of the other stuff is actually cranberry sauce. So I know that we'll have to have some of that to make them happy.

Georgia Aquarium: Behind The Scenes
Contribution by Odis Chan
My sons and I are once again planning a trip to the Georgia Aquarium. This time we will be taking the “Behind the Scenes Tour” which is a great tour offering insight into the inner workings of the largest aquarium on the planet. The interesting about this tour is that it allows us a view from the top of the tanks, instead of the usual view from the bottom. Hopefully some of the larger fish (one tank has a great white) will swim up for a closer look. The coral reef exhibit should also be interesting. While I know they are old enough to understand what a coral reef is, I don't know that they fully appreciate the diversity of life that lives there. They will also be involved with the aquarium staff as they prepare the food and discuss the nutritional needs of the different fish. Since Atlanta is a 45 minute drive from our home, I always take the time to set our home security alarm from HOME-ALARM-SYSTEMS.com. My kids may not understand the biodiversity of a coral reef, they do understand face book. I tell them not to post these things, but sometimes their excitement overrules me. As always, the penguins will probably be our favorite exhibit no matter how many sharks we see. Will remain true when they are teenagers? Time will tell.

Fun Costumes For Halloween
The Author of this post is Velma Baird
Grabbing candy for Halloween is definitely one of my favorite pastimes. As a kid, I loved to go trick or treating and gather up all the latest in candy goodness. Nowadays I take my children out to experience what to me is only a memory. We love heading out for the hunt and finding all kinds of new candy we didn't even know existed before we got out there going door to door.
The folks that answer the door are as friendly as ever, always making Halloween special for the parents and children that share it together. We hand out candy too if we get home in time, but most of the time we're too busy enjoying another tradition: watching a scary movie on cannonsatellite TV after returning home from a hard night's trick or treating.
The night of Halloween is something special to my family and me. We share in every part of the special occasion together, enjoying the fun of the walk door to door, combined with the eeriness of the night itself. There is no other holiday that is quite as unique as Halloween is, with all its candy treasures and celebrations of all things we'd never think to celebrate otherwise.
I love Halloween, trick or treating and all, and I'm glad that my family and I can enjoy the tradition together.

Sam Houston National Forest - Best Place for Camping & Hiking
Thanks for the article from Alfred Maynard
Sam Houston national park is one of four National Forests located in Texas; with around 50 miles north of Houston, this forest contains 163, 037 acres between Huntsville, Conroe, Cleveland and Richards in Texas. During fourth or July, I had gone camping to Sam Houston Forest with six friends; it was a fun-filled camping experience. Before leaving for the camping all of us had set the security alarm system (ADT ALARM pricing) in the house for ensuring safety.
We enjoyed the Lone Star Hiking Trail extended over 128 miles through the Sam Houston National Forest; while camping we did fishing at Lake Conroe and experienced a wonderful hiking trail at this natural trail with tapered sandy paths through the forest with some grassy stretches. We also spotted many white-tailed deer, turkey, quail, dove, rabbits, foxes, and bobcats in these piney woods. The park has three developed campgrounds; these are Cagle, Double Lake and also Stubble-field recreation areas. In case of double lake, a prior reservation is applicable and also based upon a first-come, first-served basis. Both the Cagle and Stubble-field campsites are available only based on a first-come, first-served and offer campsites with lantern posts and picnic areas with dinner tables. Campers have options to go biking, hiking and also boating at Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston. Several water sports are also available for the campers and outsiders. This particular camping was very much exciting and enjoyable for all of us.

Tin Man - My Favorite Mini Series
Some people believe classic films like The Wizard of Oz should never be touched. The originals were good enough then, and they are good enough now. In fact, many believe these seminal works of art should be protected like historical antiques, encased in amber and shoved into the vaults of Fort Knox, the hallowed chambers guarded by a team of navy seals with nunchucks and trained dogs with rabies. These people have a point. After all, the remake is in large part a cheap gag, a crutch leaned on by lazy writers who are unable to manufacture a creative idea on there own. The mini series Tin Man, however, is not a remake. It is not a sequel or a pastiche. It is a re-imagining.
If you ignore the classic Sci-Fi computer graphics, hipster names and the lame and overreaching attempts at trying to be cool, Tin Man can be appreciated for what it is. An attempt. You see, unlike other shows that rely on dialogues laced with platitudes and stories that are unimaginative, Tin Man reminds us all that we can still try to make good fiction, we can still try to think out of the box, even if what was outside the box ended up being a miserable failure. Yet this is still my favorite mini series of all time, because it was a daring piece of work, and every time I watch it the show inspires me to think in ways that are unconventional. Also, it stars Zooey Deschanel, an actress who is a living zoo of emotion.
The mini series Tin Man is shown only on the Sci Fi Channel, which airs periodically on my tv from www.direc4u.com.

These You May Put in the Dishwasher
Action figures and other small toys can ride in a mesh lingerie bag on the top rack (but don’t wash Barbie or she’ll have a horrible hair day).
Rain boots should have the liners removed and lie horizontally. Hook flip-flops on tines in the top rack. (FYI, Crocs are not dishwasher-safe.)
Tools with metal or plastic handles will be fine. Towel-dry afterward to prevent rusting.
Ceramic cabinet knobs do well in the silverware basket, so if you feel like embarking on the process (remove, wash, replace), go for it.
Hairbrushes and combs made of plastic can take a spin, but not wood or natural boar-bristle brushes. Be sure to remove all the hair first to protect the drain.
Fan grilles, switch plates, and vent covers are in if they’re plastic, aluminum, or steel. Enameled, painted, or plated should stay out.
Shin guards, knee pads, and mouth guards―toss them all into the top rack.
Garden tools may have come in contact with pesticides or animals, so don’t mix them with a load of dishes. (And don’t wash those with wood handles.)
Light-fixture covers are fine in the top rack, as long as they’re not antique, enameled, or painted.
Potatoes can get nice and clean in the top rack with a rinse-only cycle (no detergent). Sound crazy? It makes mashed potatoes for 20 a lot quicker.
Cast-iron, enameled-cast-iron, and copper pots and pans are on the never list. Why? Cast iron rusts; enameled cast iron chips; copper dents.
Formal dishes and nice flatware can get worn with repeated washings. Rule of thumb: If it’s something you would cry over harming or losing, don’t put it in. (If you do put sterling silver in the dishwasher, use about a tablespoon of detergent and don’t mix it with stainless-steel flatware; a chemical reaction between the metals can discolor the silver.)
Crystal glasses are especially vulnerable. Food particles can etch them; heat can cause cracks. After hand washing (it’s usually safer than using the china/crystal setting), dry with a cloth that hasn’t been laundered with fabric softener, which can leave a film.
Wooden spoons can warp and crack. If you don’t mind replacing them frequently, throw them in; otherwise wash them in the sink.
Brass items should never see the inside of a dishwasher. Hot water can remove the natural protective layer that forms on brass.
